Safety Issue Regarding a Potential Threat
The LGBTIQA+ communities have long been the recipient of anger, ire, and violence in many forms. The Board of Directors has recently been made aware of a concern relayed by a third party potentially posing a threat to MCC of Northern Virginia. Very little is known definitively at this time, and there is no evidence of anything that is actionable. While vague, and without a specific source, we have taken this concern very seriously. The authorities have been notified. The matter is under investigation. As a result, you may be aware of an enhanced police presence around MCC of Northern Virginia. While this step is being taken out of an abundance of caution, we also recognize that this may make some of our members and friends uncomfortable. This presence, while designed with safety in mind, also reminds us that there is always a level of risk that we are unable to mitigate, and, as with the pandemic, each person must make choices for themselves as to their level of comfort in being present for worship, even when very little is known for certain. While we continue to host in-person worship at this time, we have live-streamed our worship services since March 2020, and we will continue to do so moving forward.
We request your continued prayers during this time.
Peace,
The Board of Directors
