Micah Ministries is ....
MCC NOVA's community service and social justice ministry. Micah's objective is "To help NOVA members and friends grow spiritually through active involvement in meeting the needs of others."
We accomplish this by:
· Providing a means by which MCC NOVA's voice is heard in the community.
· Leading and inspiring MCC NOVA to be the outstretched arms of Christ, reaching out and responding to the needs of people in our community and beyond.
Our Mission
Our mission is to foster an environment in which NOVA members and friends are well-informed and active participants in social justice and service activities, reaching out and responding to the needs of people in our community and beyond. We invite you to bring your talents and dedication to the table, to step out with us into our world and transform it, one day, one person, and one action at a time.
The following is a small list of the types of programs we have been involved with:
- Outreach and service to people in need who live among us -- people who are homeless, in crisis, living with HIV/AIDS, struggling with chemical dependency or other addictions.
- Building community in our neighborhood and across neighborhoods; strengthening the bonds among churches, schools and other community organizations.
- Speaking out on social and political issues shaping the city and the nation especially those issues affecting the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities.
- Bringing an end to racism and homophobia by building bridges of understanding and respect, creating a society that embraces diversity.
- Participation in the global community and understanding our connection to it, promoting peace, economic justice and human rights.
- Environmental awareness and advocacy, protecting and bringing healing to the earth.
What We do at Micah Ministries
More specifically, Micah consists of a small group of people who help identify and coordinate community service and social justice opportunities for the church at-large. These activities have included food drives, Thanksgiving and Christmas 'adopt-a-family' activities; school supply drives; participation with local social justice groups; selection of groups to receive assistance through special congregational offerings, and participation in a variety of community and social justice events.
